The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has expected heavy to very heavy rainfall in various districts of Odisha tomorrow, ahead of Cyclone Montha.
According to the IMD, isolated areas in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Kandhamal districts are expected to get severe rainfall tomorrow, ranging from 7 to 20 centimeters.
Furthermore, severe rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is expected in isolated areas of Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur districts.
On October 29, the IMD issued a red warning for Malakangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajpati, and Ganjam districts, as well as an orange warning for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khorda, and Puri.
Cyclone Montha is expected to grow into a strong cyclonic storm by October 28 and make landfall near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The storm is expected to bring severe gusts, heavy rain, and coastal flooding to numerous districts of Odisha.
The IMD has issued a red alert in numerous Odisha districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. The state government is organizing relief efforts to lessen the impact of the hurricane.
Residents in impacted areas are advised to stay indoors and avoid travel to cyclone-prone locations. Fishermen have been instructed not to enter the sea until October 29. The Odisha government has also sent disaster response teams to affected areas and is actively monitoring the situation.
