India vs Australia Highlights 2nd T20I: Australia easily chased down India’s modest score of 125, winning by four wickets with 40 balls remaining in the second T20 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After the first game was rained out, both teams were keen to resume play, but Australia’s batsmen, spearheaded by Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, made quick work of India’s score.
India scored 125 in 18.4 overs, with Abhishek Sharma shining in a rare bright spot, hitting 68 off 37 balls, including 8 fours and two sixes. However, the Australian bowlers dominated India’s innings. Josh Hazlewood led the assault with three wickets for 13 runs, with Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis both taking two. “This is fantastic work from Abhishek Sharma. He’s had bigger, flashier knocks, but I believe this one is right up there in terms of quality and difficulty,” a commentator said during Sharma’s innings. Despite Sharma’s efforts, India’s middle and lower order failed to stay firm, with Harshit Rana, Shivam Dube, and Kuldeep Yadav all falling cheaply.
In response, Australia got a quick start, with Marsh and Head putting on a 51-run opening stand. Marsh hit a match-winning 46 off 26 balls, while Head added 28 off 15. Kuldeep Yadav gave some early resistance by dismissing Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh, but Varun Chakravarthy’s dismissal of Tim David and Bumrah’s wickets of Mitchell Owen and Matthew Short were insufficient to arrest Australia’s momentum. “Bumrah tried everything, but Australia’s aggressive intent was too strong,” one expert said.
Australia completed the chase in 13.2 overs, finishing on 126/6. Marcus Stoinis and Xavier Bartlett finished unblemished, leading their team past India with more than half the overs remaining. With this victory, Australia takes a 1-0 lead in the T20 series, forcing India to reconsider their batting approach ahead of the decider.
