The Indian stock market benchmarks, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, closed in the red on Friday, November 7, extending losses for the third straight session, reflecting negative global indications.
At one point throughout the day, each of the big indices was down around 1%. However, they cut their losses greatly and finished marginally lower.
The Sensex closed 95 points, or 0.11 percent, lower at 83,216.28, while the Nifty 50 ended at 25,492.30, down 17 points, or 0.07 percent. The BSE Midcap index outperformed, up 0.25 percent, while the Smallcap index finished flat.
On the BSE, the biggest losers were Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, Trent, Reliance Industries, and HCL Tech, while the top gainers were Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, M&M, and ICICI Bank.
Broader indices remained mixed as compared to their frontline counterparts. The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 0.63 percent higher, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 index fell 0.16 percent.
Sectorally, the Nifty Financial Services Ex-Bank gained the most, up 2.18 percent, followed by Metal (up 1.41%) and PSU Bank (up 0.87%).
Nifty Consumer Durables was the largest loss, down 0.72%, followed by IT (0.62%) and FMCG (0.49%).
