Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, March 19, 2026: The Nifty50 and Sensex fell as energy costs skyrocketed following rising hostilities between the US, Iran, and Israel, which caused additional damage to oil infrastructure.
The Nifty50 closed 2.89 percent, or 687.25 points, lower at 23,090.55, while the Sensex closed 2.87 percent, or 2,199.86 points lower at 74,504.27.
The Nifty India Volatility Index rose 22.86 percent to 23.20 during the session, indicating that uncertainty would stay high in the near term. The index finished 21.79 percent higher, at 22.80.
Broader markets declined along with the main indices. The Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices closed 3.19 percent and 2.94 percent lower, respectively.
In terms of sector, the Nifty Auto suffered the most among its rivals. Nifty Financial Services and Nifty IT both underperformed.
During trading hours, Brent crude rose 11% to $119.5 per barrel after reports stated Saudi Arabia had suspended loading oil at the port of Yanbu due to damage to important refineries. Drones bombed Samref’s refineries, while other Aramco refineries caught fire as a result of strikes during the US-Iran confrontation.
