In a key step toward improving road safety, passenger comfort, and convenience, the State Transport Authority (STA) of Odisha has decided to prohibit the operation of commercial vehicles registered in other states that are more than ten years old from the date of manufacturing.
The Transport Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the State Transport Authority has now issued an official order implementing this resolution throughout the state. All Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) have been urged to maintain strict compliance.
According to the new directive issued during the 301st STA meeting on July 19, 2023, commercial vehicles older than ten years and registered outside of Odisha will be prohibited from operating in the state. The concerned authorities have also been instructed not to issue any new permits to such vehicles.
In addition, all Regional Transport Officers and Assistant Regional Transport Officers have been prohibited from allowing ownership transfers, change of address, or accepting any form of transport tax in respect of such out-of-state vehicles older than 10 years.
“All the Regional Transport Officers are instructed not to make any change of address, not to allow transfer of ownership, not to accept tax in respect of other State stage / contract carriage vehicles which are more than 10 years old henceforth”, read the order issued by the State Transport Authority.
