The Odisha government has launched the ‘Atal Bus Stand’ (ABS) plan, a revolutionary drive to improve and modernize the state’s public transportation infrastructure.
The program will build state-of-the-art bus stops at district headquarters, sub-divisional headquarters, block headquarters, urban local bodies, and tourism destinations, classified as A, B, and C based on public demand and transportation needs.
The ABS project will consolidate all existing bus stops under a single canopy, assuring consistency in development, operation, and management. The bus stops will be legally recognized as Public Transport Infrastructure, serving both government and private bus operators and offering comprehensive public services.
The project intends to foster social cohesion, economic progress, and inclusive development while maintaining environmental sustainability. The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) will carry out the program, which has a total budget of Rs 3,400 crores sanctioned for FY 2031-32.
The primary goals are to improve operating efficiency, increase income, and consolidate infrastructure and services. The concept is expected to significantly improve the state’s public transportation infrastructure, helping commuters and increasing tourist and economic development.
