The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning on Sunday for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds in numerous parts of Odisha on July 13, while heavy rainfall is expected in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph are expected to occur on Monday in one or two locations in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
The weather office has also predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Besides, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
The IMD advised people to stay vigilant during thunderstorms and take measures against lightning strikes and strong gusts.
Residents have been advised to stay home during thunderstorms, avoid taking refuge beneath trees, stay away from electric lines and bodies of water, and adhere to local weather advisories.
