Shubman Gill has moved within touching distance of the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI batter rankings following his dominant performance against England, while Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have also improved India’s position at the top of the tables in the most recent update.
Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand remains the top scorer with 802 rating points, but Gill has closed the gap to one point after scoring 188 runs in India’s three-match ODI series against England. Kohli retains third with 767 rating points, while Rohit is fourth with 758, putting three Indian hitters solidly in contention for the top spot.
Despite India’s batting prowess, England won the series 2-1, with Joe Root emerging as the standout player. The experienced right-hander, who remained unbeaten throughout the series while scoring 249 runs, climbed four places to eighth in the ODI batter rankings.
Ben Duckett of England improved 11 places to joint 19th, while Jacob Bethell climbed five places to 64th. New Zealanders Michael Bracewell and Mark Chapman also advanced after impressive performances in the ODI series against the West Indies, rising to 54th and 62nd, respectively.
Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s leg-spinner, remains at the top of the ODI bowling rankings. England fast bowler Jofra Archer moved up one spot to third place after taking five wickets against India, trailing only Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed.
Gudakesh Motie, a West Indies left-arm spinner, joined the top ten after moving seven places to equal ninth. His teammate Alzarri Joseph moved up 10 places to 26th, while New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell climbed 14 spots to 29th. Axar Patel of India also made great progress, moving up 10 positions to joint 32nd.
Bracewell’s all-round achievements were reflected in the ODI all-rounders rankings, which saw him rise two places to a career-high third. Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai remains the category leader, with Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz in second place.
The latest ICC update also showed significant change in the T20I rankings following Bangladesh’s series triumph over Zimbabwe.
Brian Bennett of Zimbabwe moved up to ninth in the T20I rankings, a career high. Tanzid Hasan of Bangladesh moved up seven places to 20th, while Saif Hassan progressed nine places to 27th.
Bangladesh’s Mahedi Hasan climbed four places to 19th, while Rishad Hossain advanced eight places to equal 25th. Richard Ngarava of Zimbabwe made one of the most significant gains of the week, jumping 37 places to 32nd in the T20I bowling rankings.
