Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medalist, won silver and Yash Vir Singh took bronze for India in the men’s javelin throw event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Friday night. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed gold.
Neeraj’s best throw was 85.83m, but it was encouraging that the first four of his attempts all over the 80m barrier. Neeraj is still working hard to regain his best form after missing the World Championship due to an injury. Meanwhile, Yash Vir Singh threw 85.41m on his final throw of the night, vaulting into bronze medal position. This was his personal best.
Meanwhile, reigning Olympic champion and the defending champion from Birmingham 2022, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, was eliminated after just three throws!

On Wednesday, Neeraj placed fifth in the qualification round with a best effort of 79.61m, while Rohit (78.37m) and Yash Vir (78.36m) finished ninth and tenth, respectively.
