Stock Market Highlights on Friday, Aug 14, 2026: The benchmark Nifty50 and Sensex fell as oil prices surged after the United States threatened to extend the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz indefinitely.
The Sensex closed 71 points or 0.09 percent lower at 78,009.25, while the Nifty50 slid 29.85 points or 0.12 percent to 24,366.00.
The Nifty50 index’s top losers included Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Jio Financial Services, and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap ended 0.53 percent and 0.69 percent lower, respectively.
The Nifty Consumer Durables increased roughly 1% and outperformed its counterparts. Meanwhile, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Realty underperformed.
