Share Market Close: Sensex declines for 2nd day, ends 539 pts lower; Nifty settles at 24,091

Stock Market Highlights on Thursday, Aug 27, 2026: The benchmark indices extended their losses into the second session as metal, PSU bank, and cement shares fell on mixed global cues.

The Sensex slid 539.35 points, or 0.7 percent, to 76,933.59, while the Nifty50 dropped 116.90 points, or 0.48 percent, to 24,090.85.

The top losers on the Nifty50 index were Hindalco Industries, HDFC Bank, and Mahindra & Mahindra.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap fell 0.1% and 0.13%, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty Cement fell the most, losing more than 1%. Meanwhile, Nifty Pharma, Nifty Private Bank, and Nifty Realty performed well.
