The mythological epic Adipurush is continuing its downhill spiral after a spectacular debut weekend at the box office. After one week in theaters, the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon-starrer has made an estimated Rs 3.25 crore nett on day eight, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This is the film’s lowest single-day gross in its eight-day theatrical run.
The Hindi collections of filmmaker Om Raut’s film are estimated to be approximately Rs 125 crore nett, according to the monitoring website. On Friday, the overall Hindi occupancy was 8.30%, the Telugu occupancy was 16.31%, the Tamil occupancy was 23.81%, and the Kannada occupancy was 8.56%.
The nett domestic collection of the film is presently Rs 263.15 crore. Adipurush is the third film this year to enter the Rs 200 crore club, following The Kerala Story (which made Rs 241.95 crore according to Bollywood Hungama). Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, remains the highest-grossing film in India, with Rs 543.05 crore.
Adipurush’s nett worldwide collection after eight days in theaters is Rs 378.01 crore, according to trade expert Manobala Vijayabalan. Adipurush is said to have a budget of more over Rs 500 crore. T-Series, the film’s production company, stated that the film had earned Rs 410 crore worldwide as of Thursday, but they have not released box-office data for the last two days.
Even while the film is getting closer to breaking even, it is suffering from bad reviews from both critics and audiences. Adipurush’s language and VFX garnered harsh criticism as soon as the film hit theaters. Earlier this week, the producers altered a few offensive sentences and even reduced ticket costs. None of the new alterations have improved the film’s box office performance. Manoj Desai, the executive director of Mumbai’s Gaiety Galaxy film hall, announced on Friday that he had to cancel shows due to poor word-of-mouth. “Viewers have rejected this film. Yesterday, two of our shows were cancelled and today, our matinee shows had to be cancelled due to poor word-of-mouth and response. This movie will be removed from theatres very soon and we didn’t think it will come to this. Not just ours, the owners of all theatres where the film has been released have suffered losses,” he told news agency ANI.
Adipurush’s release date was perfectly planned, as there is little competition at the box office this week, with no major picture releasing. On June 23, only Krishna Bhatt’s debut picture 1920: Horrors of the Heart was released in theaters, giving Adipurush another week with no competition. Adipurush’s failure means that all three of Prabhas’ films since the success of the Baahubali franchise have underperformed both financially and critically.
