In the 19th edition of the Continental multi-nation, multi-discipline sports spectacular, India, for the first time in the history of the Asian Games, made history by crossing the 100-medal mark in overall medals. India initially planned and held this event in New Delhi in 1951.
The women’s kabaddi team earned India’s 100th medal in Hangzhou, defeating Chinese Taipei 26-25 in the final.
In Hangzhou, India won 100 medals, including 25 gold, 35 silver, and 40 bronze. Male contestants have earned 47 medals (12-17-18), women have claimed 44 (9-18-19), and seven have come in mixed events.
At the conclusion of competitions on Friday night, India had 95 medals, with the men’s hockey team achieving the gold medal by beating Japan in the final.
Aditi Gopichand Swamy added a bronze on Saturday, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam earned gold in the Compound Women’s Individual archery category, bringing the total to 97.
Ojas Pravin Deotale and Abhishek Verma won gold and silver in the Compound Men’s Individual archery, bringing the total to 99. The women’s kabaddi squad then increased it to 100.
This is India’s highest-ever medal total in the Asian Games, surpassing the country’s previous best haul of 70 medals in Indonesia in 2018.
