Jasprit Bumrah has become the sixth Indian fast bowler to reach 200 wickets in men’s Tests. In his 44th Test match, Bumrah reached the milestone by flicking Travis Head to mid-wicket and dismissing him for one, raising both arms in the air in utter glee.
Bumrah holds the best average in Test cricket history, at 19.56, surpassing veteran West Indies pacer Joel Garner, who had an average of 20.34.
Bumrah, who made his Test debut in 2018, is also India’s second-fastest bowler to reach the milestone, ranking level with Ravindra Jadeja. The recently retired Ravichandran Ashwin is the fastest Indian bowler to pick 200 Test wickets, which he achieved in 37 innings.
Bumrah is the quickest Indian fast bowler, with the legendary Kapil Dev coming in second, having grabbed his 200th wicket in his 50th Test. Overall, Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah is the fastest to reach 200 Test wickets, having done it in only 33 Tests.
With 8484 deliveries, Bumrah is the fourth-fastest Test cricketer to reach 200 wickets, trailing only Pakistan’s Waqar Younis (7725), South Africa’s Dale Steyn (7848), and Kagiso Rabada (8153).
Bumrah didn’t stop there, getting rid of Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey in his next 10 deliveries to break the back of Australia’s batting line-up in their second innings of the continuing Boxing Day Test.
