Jasprit Bumrah’s sensational performance in the present Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia has propelled him to the maximum rating points ever obtained by an Indian bowler in Test cricket, cementing his position as the No. 1 bowler in the most recent rankings update.
With 907 rating points, Bumrah surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin’s 904 rating points from December 2016, making him the highest-ever ranked Indian Test bowler in ICC rankings history.
The pacer’s 907 points ranked him joint-17th all-time, alongside Derek Underwood of England.
Australian captain Pat Cummins also benefited from his Boxing Day heroics, jumping 15 rating points and one position to No. 3 in the bowling rankings.
Cummins also moves up to third place in the Test All-Rounder Rankings, thanks to the aforementioned bowling exploits and 90 important runs during Australia’s stunning victory in Melbourne.
South African pacer Marco Jansen advanced six places in the Test rankings, finishing sixth. His seven-wicket haul against Pakistan in the Centurion Boxing Day Test propelled him beyond the 800-point threshold for the first time.
Several players improved their batting rankings significantly. South Africa’s Aiden Markram returned to the top 20 after scoring 89 and 37 in the Centurion Test. His contributions were critical to South Africa’s victory over Pakistan, which earned them a position in the ICC Test Championship final.
Yashasvi Jaiswal of India continued his remarkable climb, moving up one rank to fourth place, his career high. Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel also achieved a personal high by climbing three places to sixth, while Australia’s Steve Smith climbed to seventh with a gutsy effort in the Boxing Day Test.
Nitish Kumar Reddy of India made the most significant jump, moving up 20 places to 53rd in the Test batting rankings following a strong effort in the Melbourne Test.
Meanwhile, in the Zimbabwe-Afghanistan Boxing Day Test, Afghanistan’s Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi both scored double hundreds, propelling them to 52nd and 57th place in the rankings.
Zimbabwean batters Sean Williams (19th) and Craig Ervine (47th) also improved, with Williams earning the highest grade for a Zimbabwean batter since Brendan Taylor in 2014.
