Diet plays a crucial role in controlling blood pressure levels. Adopting a balanced dietary pattern that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and limited saturated fats will help to keep blood pressure levels in check. Similarly, drinking some healthful drinks will help you manage your blood pressure.
Speaking with media, Dr Ushakiran Sisodia, Registered Dietician and Clinical Nutritionist Diet and Nutrition, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital shared, “Diet can have a significant impact on blood pressure levels. Foods, which are high in sodium, can cause high blood pressure and foods rich in potassium, magnesium, and fibre can help lower theblood pressure. The correlation depends on the impact of the foods on blood vessels and specific inflammations”.
Dietician Lovneet Batra took to Instagram to share three drinks, which can help manage blood pressure.
Three drinks to manage blood pressure levels
“In addition to making changes to your diet and lifestyle, research shows that several drinks could help lower blood pressure levels and support heart health,” wrote Batra. These drinks are:
1. Amla ginger juice: Amla has been reported to reduce oxidative stress, prevent development and progression of hypertension. Whereas Ginger contains compounds that have been shown to promote vasodilation, which is the widening of blood vessels.
“Amla ginger juice is extremely beneficial for blood pressure.Amla is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which helps in expanding blood vessels and decreasing blood pressure. Ginger is known to improve blood circulation, thus helping in managing blood pressure,” concurred Dr Sisodia.
2. Coriander seeds water: Coriander extract appears to act as a diuretic, helping your body flush out excess sodium and water. This may lower your blood pressure.
“Coriander seeds’ water is also good for blood pressure management. Dr. Sisodia explained, “Coriander seeds possess diuretic properties that aid in sodium elimination, potentially leading to reduced blood pressure.”
3. Beetroot tomato juice: Beetroot is high in nitrate (NO3) and may lower blood pressure (BP). NO3 is a precursor to the production of nitric oxide (NO), which raises its concentrations in the bloodstream and improves endothelial function.
Tomato extract, containing carotenoids like lycopene, beta carotene, and vitamin E, serves as potent antioxidants, reducing blood pressure.
“Beetroot tomato juice is another healthful combination to maintain healthy blood pressure levels. Beetroots are rich in nitrates, which can relax blood vessels and improve blood flow. Sisodia stated, “Tomatoes contain high levels of potassium and lycopene, both known for their ability to help lower blood pressure.”
Though these natural remedies support blood pressure management, in no way they can replace prescribed medication or active care. “Balanced diet and healthy lifestyle can only support the ongoing treatment and isn’t an alternative to it. Exercise regularly, manage stress, reduce sodium and avoid alcohol to maintain a healthy blood pressure,” concluded Dr Sisodia.
