Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaireds a high-level meeting with mining leaseholders and notable entrepreneurs on Tuesday at Lok Seva Bhawan, as part of a substantial drive to increase the state’s mineral output and encourage rapid industrialization.

The discussion focused on measures to increase iron ore production in response to rising demand from the country’s steel sector and the state’s developing industrial base. Chief Minister Majhi underlined the need for increased output while keeping to the minimum mandatory limits set by the Mineral (Auction) and Development of Mineral output and Dispatch Agreement (MDPA), with a focus on both production and timely delivery.

Majhi told industry delegations that the state government will provide all feasible cooperation and facilities to boost iron ore production. He also urged manufacturers to establish additional businesses in the state’s mineral-rich districts, where there are currently few industrial units, in order to achieve balanced regional growth.

The Chief Minister emphasized people-centric development, urging mining leaseholders and industrialists to prioritize the basic needs and welfare of local inhabitants in mining districts.

A key goal announced during the meeting is the creation of a comprehensive database of land acquired in various areas for forcible afforestation for industrial and mining enterprises. This database would make it easier for stakeholders to access information about accessible land in each district, hence expediting sustainable development processes.

To boost the mining industry, the state government has created an annual auction calendar for 2026-27. Mining blocks will be auctioned according to this schedule, with the goal of bringing more resources into production effectively. Odisha, which is already a leader in iron ore and steel, will continue to play an important part in India’s ambition of dramatically increasing national steel production over the next few decades.

Shri Naveen Jindal, President of the Indian Steel Association and a Member of Parliament, complimented Chief Minister Majhi for his sincerity and strong commitment to Odisha’s economic development. He praised the proactive measures being taken to help the steel industry. The conference was attended by prominent government officials, including Chief Secretary Anu Garg.

Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, Development Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Shashwat Mishra, and Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department.
