Bhubaneswar: IMD Forecasted Cyclone ‘Jawad’ over the Bay of Bengal may affect coastal Odisha as an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm (ESCS) on December 4, indicated IMD-GFS model.
As per the prediction by the model, the system as an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm (ESCS) may be present over west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal (BoB) off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts at 1800 UTC (11:30 pm IST) on December 3, over north-west and adjoining west-central BoB off south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coasts at 00 UTC (5:30 am IST) on December 4, close to south Odisha coast at 0600 UTC (11:30 am IST) on December 4 and over coastal Odisha at 1200 UTC (5:30 pm IST) on December 4.
The model also indicated further northeastward movement of the system along the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal with gradual weakening up to 1200 UTC (5:30 pm IST) on December 6.
Notably, cyclonic storms having wind speed of 167-221 kmph are categorized as Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD Bulletin:
“The Low Pressure Area over central parts of Andaman Sea & neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-tropospheric levels persists. It is likely to move west northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression by tomorrow, the 2nd December and further intensify into a cyclonic storm over Central Bay of Bengal during subsequent 24 hours. It is likely to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach near north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts by the morning of 4th December, 2021,” the IMD said in its morning bulletin today.
The agency has also issued rainfall and wind warning in this connection.
Rainfall Warning:
3rd Dec: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely to commence over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha from evening/ night.
4th Dec: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall & extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely over coastal Odisha and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over adjoining interior districts of Odisha, coastal districts of West Bengal and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
5th Dec: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over West Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha.
Wind Warning:
* Gale winds speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph likely to prevail over central Bay of Bengal from the early morning of 3rd December and gradually increase becoming 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over northwest & adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal from the morning of 4th December for the subsequent 24 hours.
* Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely to commence along & off North Andhra Pradesh – Odisha coast from the mid-night of 3rd December and increase gradually becoming 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph from 4th December Afternoon, for the subsequent 12 hours.
* Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph also likely to commence along & off West Bengal coast from 4th December morning and become Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from the evening of 4th December for the subsequent 12 hours.
