The Indian football team has moved up one spot in the most recent FIFA Men’s World Rankings, from 101 to 100, which were revealed on Thursday.
The Blue Tigers have reached the top 100 for the first time in five years, having previously been rated 97th in 2018.
“India has risen to number 100 in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking.” In a tweet, the Indian football team’s official handle remarked, “Steadily we rise.”
India moved to 101st in the FIFA rankings in April. They have now acquired 4.24 points and moved into the top 100 after being unbeaten in the Intercontinental Cup and the SAFF Championships in June.
India has been on a roll recently, going unbeaten since a 0-3 loss to Vietnam in the 2022 VFF Tri-Nation Series.
In 2023, they have won seven of nine games while drawing twice, most recently against Kuwait in the ongoing SAFF Championship and Lebanon in the Hero Intercontinental Cup. This season, Igor Stimac’s men have also won two titles: the Tri-Nation Series and the Intercontinental Cup.
India has also scored 15 goals while keeping eight clean sheets in a succession in the nine games since the loss to Vietnam in September 2022, a new national record.
Sunil Chhetri and his teammates will try to extend their unbeaten streak when they face Lebanon in the SAFF Championship semi-finals on Saturday.
