The flood situation in Odisha remains under control, with relief, rescue, response, and restoration efforts underway throughout the impacted areas. While situations have improved in certain regions, recent heavy rainfall in sections of Mayurbhanj has had localized effects, necessitating continuous preparation and close monitoring by the state government and district governments.
According to today’s reports, one block in Jajpur district, Dasarathpur, is still affected, along with 19 GPs and 62 villages. Today, the number of affected persons stands at 7,745 with 22 relief camps active.
In Mayurbhanj district, 18 blocks, 48 GPs, and 84 villages have been affected, as have two wards of Baripada Municipality. A total of 2,763 people have been affected, while 2,076 have been evacuated. Also, 11 relief camps are operational and covering 2,076 beneficiaries.
The operating relief camps are being provided with basic necessities like as safe drinking water, sanitation, lights, medical care, and food. Special provisions are still being made for vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with impairments. Essential relief materials are also supplied in accordance with local standards.
Today’s deployment of reaction teams includes 22 teams in Jajpur, Baleshwar, and Mayurbhanj. This includes three ODRAF teams in Jajpur, three ODRAF teams in Baleshwar, and three ODRAF teams as well as thirteen Fire and Emergency Services teams in Mayurbhanj. Currently, 157 reaction teams have been sent to boost rescue and emergency response in affected districts.
The State received an average rainfall of 8.9 mm in the last 24 hours, with the maximum total of 309.2 mm recorded at Bangriposi Block in Mayurbhanj district. The overall river condition is being closely monitored, with the relevant administrations maintaining frequent preparedness.
The well-defined low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining parts of north coastal Odisha and northwest Bay of Bengal remains over the same region and is expected to move west-northwest across north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours.
Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is quite possible in one or two locations across Baragada.
Heavy rainfall is expected to occur in one or two locations in Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Nuapada, and Balangir. Districts with Orange and Yellow alerts have been encouraged to maintain their administrative equipment ready for any scenario. To avoid being struck by lightning, people should regularly monitor weather conditions and seek safe shelter during thunderstorms.
The Office of the Special Relief Commissioner coordinates with District Emergency Operation Centers (DEOCs) to monitor the situation around the clock. The general situation is under control, with a continuous emphasis on relief, response, restoration, and the safety and well-being of those in the impacted areas.
