Odisha is still experiencing extreme heat, with western regions reaching 43°C and coastal areas hovering between 38 and 40°C. The India Meteorological Department forecasts similar conditions for Sunday, with little change likely on Monday.
A minor temperature dip is expected by Tuesday, April 28, but forecasters say there may be no significant reprieve. The Met Department predicts that temperatures will remain stable for the next 2-3 days before dropping by 2 to 4 degrees. Some parts of South Odisha may have rain on Sunday as a result of Kalbaisakhi festivities.
Coastal Odisha and surrounding areas will stay hot and humid for the next two days. There is a high chance of norwester, or Kalbaisakhi, in South Odisha through May 1. Heatwave conditions are expected in parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sambalpur, and Angul districts.
Meanwhile, 17 places in Odisha recorded temperatures above 40°C on Saturday. Jharsuguda was the hottest at 44.1°C, about 3 degrees above normal. Titilagarh touched 43°C, 2.5 degrees above normal. Balangir recorded 43.5°C, Nuapada 43°C, Sundargarh 42.8°C, Sambalpur and Hirakud 42.6°C, Sonepur 42.3°C, and Bhawanipatna 42.0°C. Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw a slight dip, recording 36.6°C and 36.8°C respectively.
