Many people experience ear problems as a result of being exposed to loud music during the festival season. The ear is a sensitive organ that requires caution, particularly in children and the elderly. Doctors warn that listening to loud music can cause ear damage, including hearing loss, pain, discomfort, and ringing. These symptoms may be transitory, but repeated exposure can result in irreversible damage.

To protect your hearing during this time of year, follow these five tips to avoid putting your ears at risk.

5 Ways to Keep Your Ears Safe During Festivities

  1. Wear earplugs: Earplugs can significantly reduce noise levels while still allowing you to enjoy the event. They can protect your ears and can be especially useful in concerts or noisy environments.
  2. Maintain Safe Distance: Stay at least 10 feet away from loudspeakers or sound sources. The further you are from the sound, the less intense the exposure.
  3. Monitor Volume Levels: Use apps on your smartphone to monitor decibel levels. If the sound exceeds 85 decibels, it’s time to protect your ears and move away. Make sure you listen to the sound in a minimal sound.
  4. Make sure you take breaks: Give your ears some rest by stepping away from loud environments every 15 to 20 minutes. This allows your ears to recover from constant noise exposure.
  5. When to See a Doctor: If you experience persistent ringing in the ears, discomfort or sudden hearing loss after a loud event, consult an audiologist for evaluation.

Enjoy the celebrations, but remember to prioritize your hearing health. With a few measures, you can protect your ear.
