Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and New Zealand veteran Daryl Mitchell have risen to the top ten of the current ICC Test rankings, which were revealed on Wednesday, following good performances in the third Test in Mumbai.
Pant has risen five places to sixth in the Test Batter Rankings after scoring outstanding half-centuries. This rise gets him close to his career-high ranking of sixth, which he previously achieved in July 2022.
Mitchell has also improved significantly, moving up eight spots to seventh overall after scoring 82 in the first inning in Mumbai. He now joins fellow New Zealander Kane Williamson, who is second.
England’s Joe Root retained his comfortable lead at the top of the Test batting rankings, followed by Williamson, Harry Brook (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth), and Steve Smith (fifth). Shubman Gill of India has also improved, moving up four places to 16th after scoring 90 runs in the first innings against New Zealand.
Will Young, Player of the Series and key to New Zealand’s win, climbed 29 places to 44th overall.
India’s left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja moved up two spots to sixth place after a spectacular 10-wicket haul against New Zealand. His partner Washington Sundar also improved, moving up seven ranks to 46th among Test bowlers.
New Zealand’s spin attack also achieved success. Ajaz Patel moved 12 places to 22nd, while Ish Sodhi advanced three places to equal 70th.
Meanwhile, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj moved up four places to 19th, boosted by his outstanding 13-wicket haul against Bangladesh in South Africa’s recent series victory.
The new ODI rankings also show significant movement. West Indies captain Shai Hope has risen five positions to 12th among ODI batsmen after scoring his 17th century in the second match against England. England’s Liam Livingstone rose 32 ranks to 58th after scoring a century in the same match.
Shaheen Afridi and Mitchell Starc improved their ODI bowler rankings. He went up three ranks to fourth, while Starc climbed four spots to 14th after their opening efforts in Australia’s ODI series against Pakistan.
Brandon McMullen of Scotland also improved in the ODI all-rounder rankings, moving up three spots to sixth.
