The schedule for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India has been revealed, as have the 10 sites for the big tournament, which will take place over 46 days later this year.
The World Cup begins on October 5 with a rematch of the 2019 Final between England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
India kicks up their campaign against five-time World Cup winners Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
The showcase tournament will feature ten teams, with the first eight having previously qualified through the Cricket World Cup Super League. The final two berths will be determined at the conclusion of the Qualifier competition in Zimbabwe on July 9.
In a round-robin style, each team plays the other nine, with the top four qualifying for the knockout stage and semi-finals.
Apart from the exciting first match and India’s battle with 2019 semi-finalists Australia, the tournament is jam-packed with key clashes.
Australia will face South Africa on October 13 in Lucknow, seeking for a turnaround after a dramatic match in the last edition ended in the Proteas’ favor.
The highly anticipated India-Pakistan match is set for October 15 in Ahmedabad. Their most recent meeting in the 2019 World Cup was a high-scoring contest, with India coming out on top in Manchester.
Pakistan will meet Australia in Bengaluru on October 20, while England will face South Africa the following day in Mumbai.
India will meet New Zealand in an attempt to revenge their 2019 semi-final setback on October 22 at the gorgeous Dharamsala site, while Australia will face England on November 4 in Ahmedabad. Four years ago, the defending champs beat the Aussies to go to the final.
On October 29, India will host England, who defeated them in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals just a year ago.
On November 12, England will face Pakistan in the last group stage match in Kolkata.
The first semi-final will be place in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 15, and the second semi-final will be held in Kolkata the following day. There will be a reserve day for both semi-finals.
The Grand Finale will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19 with November 20 slated as the reserve day.
All three knock-out fixtures will be day-night affairs, with the matches beginning at 14:00 local time.
