The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for various districts in Odisha during the next seven days, with heatwave conditions expected to worsen in the west and interior, while hot and humid weather persists along the coast.
Here is the daily breakdown of the forecast:
Day-1 (April 13, 2026): Hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Puri, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Day-2 (April 14, 2026): Hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the same coastal districts — Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Puri, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Day-3 (April 15, 2026): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over Balangir, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur. Hot and humid conditions will continue over the coastal districts mentioned above.
Day-4 (April 16, 2026): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over Balangir, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, and Sambalpur. Hot and humid conditions will persist in the coastal districts.
Day-5 (April 17, 2026): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over Balangir, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Nuapada, Nabarangapur, and Sambalpur. Hot and humid conditions will continue along the coast.
Day-6 (April 18, 2026): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over Balangir, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Sambalpur. Hot and humid conditions will persist in the coastal districts.
Day-7 (April 19, 2026): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over Balangir, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Nuapada, Nabarangapur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Sambalpur. Hot and humid conditions will continue over the coastal districts.
The IMD advises people to avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take all essential precautions. Farmers and outdoor workers are also urged to exercise caution.
