On Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued Orange and Yellow warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and heat wave conditions in many Odisha districts on June 22.
An Orange Warning has been issued by the IMD for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph at one or two locations in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts.
On Monday, the meteorological agency predicts a heat wave and warm nighttime temperatures in remote areas of Sambalpur district.
Meanwhile, in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh, a Yellow Warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and strong gusts of 40-50 kmph.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected in isolated areas of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Deogarh districts.
In addition, the IMD predicts severe rainfall in one or two locations in Rayagada and Koraput districts. Heat wave conditions are expected in isolated sections of Jharsuguda district, while hot and humid weather is predicted in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh districts.
The IMD has encouraged citizens to be attentive and take precautions against lightning strikes, strong winds, heavy rainfall, and heat-related illnesses.
