The upper air cyclonic circulation that was over south Bangladesh and surrounding Gangetic West Bengal is now over the northwest Bay of Bengal and neighboring West Bengal-North Odisha coasts, spanning between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting south-westward with height, according to the IMD on Wednesday.
Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to form over the same region around August 29, 2026.The IMD has forecasted rain in Odisha for the next three days and issued color-coded advisories.
For August 28, orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places has been issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur and Boudh.
For August 29, orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Balasore, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Khordha and Nayagarh.
The IMD has cautioned that strong winds may cause damage to plantations, horticulture, and standing crops, as well as minor damage to loose and unsecured structures and kutcha huts. People have been advised to monitor the weather, stay home, close windows and doors, avoid travel if possible, and not seek shelter under trees.
