India defeated New Zealand comprehensively in the second T20I at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui to take the lead in the three-match T20I series. Indian bowlers bowled brilliantly from the start of their 192-run defense. The spinners took wickets in the middle overs after Bhuvneshwar Kumar swung the new ball. Chahal bowled well, dismissing Glenn Philips and Jimmy Neesham, both dangerous batsmen. Sundar struggled in his first game back from injury. Despite dismissing Devon Conway, the off-spinner went for 24 runs in two overs.
Deepak Hooda did not contribute with the bat but did strike four times for ten runs in his spell. In the 19th over, he took three wickets to end the innings. Williamson scored 50 while huffing and puffing throughout the innings, but this could be the innings that returns him to form.
Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 111 (51 balls) had earlier led India to 191 for 6. Suryakumar Yadav completed his second fifty in just 17 balls. In the final over, Tim Southee (3/34) completed his second International hat-trick.
