India vs West Indies Highlights: Shikhar Dhawan’s 97 and fifties from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer helped India win the series opener against the West Indies by three runs. West Indies led 309 to 309 thanks to Kyle Mayers’ 75 and Brandon King’s 54. In the end, Rovman Powell hit a quick 39 but couldn’t get the home team over the line, with Mohammed Siraj defending 15 runs in the final over. Siraj took a couple of wickets, and Shardul Thakur and Yuzvendra Chahal each took two. Earlier, Dhawan and Gill combined for 119 before the latter was dismissed for 64. Shreyas scored a half-century after Gill was dismissed to take India past 200.
Dhawan reached the 90s but died on 97. In his calculated innings at Queen’s Park Oval, he hit 10 fours and three sixes. After being put to bat first, India finished with a total of 308/7. WI skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and chose to bat against India, who were missing star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The senior player has been ruled out of the first two ODIs due to a knee injury. Pooran informed that all-rounder Jason Holder is suffering from Covid-19 and will miss out, whereas Kyle Mayers was named to the squad. Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer were named to India’s starting XI.
