India vs New Zealand T20: India have done it! The Men in Blue dominated the final, defeating New Zealand and becoming world champions. They are now the only side to win consecutive T20 World Cups, as well as the first to do so at home, making them three-time champions.
India has shocked New Zealand. Following Finn Allen’s wicket, Jasprit Bumrah begins his workload, dismissing Rachin Ravindra with his first ball. And if that wasn’t enough, Axar Patel took his second wicket, removing Glenn Phillips’ leg stump.
India didn’t pay much for Finn Allen’s dropped catch, as Axar Patel returned the devastating New Zealand opening in his first over. After Shivam Dube had previously defeated Allen, India did not get off to a good start. Remember Allen? He hit a record century against South Africa the other night in Kolkata. Suryakumar Yadav swiftly approached Dube and asked him to keep his chin up. India and Arshdeep Singh could have easily taken a wicket in the first over, but there’s no reason to worry now.
After India had scored just over 30 runs in four overs, Shivam Dube bowled a 24-run over to propel India to 255/5, the third-highest total in a T20 World Cup. India went 16 balls without a boundary before Tilak’s four and Hardik’s six brought the innings back on track. However, New Zealand struck again with Hardik Pandya’s dismissal. With Ishan and Samson set, the BlackCaps removed both batters and added one more, Suryakumar Yadav, who fell for a golden duck. Jimmy Neesham claimed three wickets in one over.
India humiliated New Zealand’s bowling attack, with Ishan Kishan hitting a 23-ball fifty and forming a century partnership with Sanju Samson. More crucially, India has reached 200 with five overs remaining.
After Abhishek’s blazing half-century, it was Samson’s turn to turn up the heat, scoring a hat-trick of fifty. At the other end, Ishan Kishan provided him with reliable support as the pair put on a fifty-over partnership off just 26 deliveries. India leads by 150 runs in the 12th over. This has been insane batting.
Abhishek Sharma scored an 18-ball fifty to return to form in the crucial final, but he died after blasting 52. He and Sanju Samson were in a fire. India’s swashbuckling opener tandem is back to their best, scoring 50 in double fast time, 92 off the Powerplay, and 100 in eight overs.
India has had a wonderful start with Matt Henry’s first three dot balls. Sanju Samson hit a six to get himself and India off to a good start, followed by a pair of early boundaries from Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek gained confidence and blasted his first SIX, much to the relief of the Indian camp.
