West Indies bowlers staged a dramatic comeback in the second session, reducing India to 182/4 at tea on the first day of the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval on Thursday.
India, which was 121 for no loss at the break, lost four wickets in the second session and could only manage 61 runs.
In the opening session, opener Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal seemed unfazed and smashed fifties. However, the scenario changed dramatically in the second session, with four bowlers each picking up a wicket to put India in trouble heading into tea.
India’s opening stand of 139 was broken when Jaiswal fell to Jason Holder after hitting 57 off 74 , who had been the only bowler looking dangerous in the first session.
Rohit got a beauty from Warrican and finished on 80 off 143 before Shubman Gill failed to make an impression once more, finishing on 10. Virat Kohli, making his 500th appearance for India, required 21 balls to get off to a flyer down the ground.
West Indies got a shot in the arm when vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (8) was removed in the final over before tea.
