India’s young boxing contingent made history in the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain, winning three gold medals, one silver, and one bronze, marking the country’s best-ever continental result in youth boxing.
In a brilliant morning session, Khushi Chand (46kg) opened India’s account with a convincing 4:1 victory over China’s Luo Jinxiu, demonstrating superior ring control and technique. Ahaana Sharma (50kg) responded with a statement win, forcing a Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in Round 1 against Ma Jong Hyang of the People’s Republic of Korea. Chandrika Bhoreshi Pujari (54kg) then completed India’s golden hat-trick, defeating Uzbekistan’s Muhammadova Kumriniso by a 5:0 decision.
The medal count could increase even higher as Harnoor Kaur (66kg) and Anshika (+80kg) participate in their respective finals in the evening session, with India aiming for a record number of gold medals.
Lanchenba Singh Moibungkhongbam (50kg) demonstrated remarkable talent and heart in the boys’ final, but almost lost out on gold, finishing second after a grueling match against Kazakhstan’s Nurmakhan Zhumagali. Earlier, Anant Deshmukh (66kg) won bronze, capping off a successful performance for the Indian delegation.
With five medals, including three golds, India’s youth boxers have established their dominance on the Asian arena. The success is due to the efficiency of the national youth boxing program and the hard training camp held at NS NIS Patiala under the direction of head coaches Vinod Kumar (boys) and Jitender Raj Singh (girls).
This outstanding performance not only confirms India’s growing dominance in Asian boxing, but also heralds a brilliant new generation poised to excel on a worldwide scale.
