IPL 2024, GT vs CSK Highlights: Gujarat Titans defeated Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Captain Shubman Gill blasted a scorching century, while B Sai Sudharsan scored his first IPL century, as Gujarat defeated Chennai to stay in the play-off chase. Sudharsan (103 off 51 balls) matched skipper Gill (104 off 55 deliveries) stroke for stroke as the two openers pounded off damaging hundreds to drive GT to 231/3. The host team’s bowlers then held the reigning champions to 196/8, despite fighting fifties from Daryl Mitchell (63) and Moeen Ali (56). When sent into bat, Gill and Sudharsan put on a six-hitting display, scoring 210 runs, the greatest partnership for any wicket in the IPL this season. They also tied Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul’s highest-ever IPL opening partnership.
Chasing the enormous total, CSK’s top order imploded, leaving the holders on 10 runs for the loss of three wickets until Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali put up a triple-digit stand, with both batters scoring half-centuries.
Mohit ruined Chennai’s innings with a three-fer, and Rashid Khan took two wickets in the penultimate over to seal the victory.
However, the yellow faithful had plenty to smile about as MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 26-run knock took the sting out of the setback.
