IPL Auction 2024: Moments after Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins became the most expensive player in IPL history, his countryman Mitchell Starc took over as captain. After a heated bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, Starc was sold for Rs 24.75 crore. Starc began at a base price of Rs 2.00 crore and was scoped at the end at a record-breaking amount by Kolkata Knight Riders.
Earlier this month, Starc’s teammate and World Cup-winning skipper Cummins became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) ever when he was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the ongoing IPL Auction 2024. Starc will return to the IPL after an eight-year absence. He most recently played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He was also brought by KKR back in 2018 but withdrew his name from the tournament due to injuries.
Cummins surpassed the record set by English star Sam Curran, who was sold to Punjab Kings in the IPL Auction 2023 for Rs 18.50 crore. Starc, on the other hand, now owns the record for the most expensive IPL player.
Yuvraj Singh still maintains the record for the most expensive Indian player, having been sold to the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2015 for Rs 16 crore. The auction is taking place at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena.
