On Day Two of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship Juniors in Changwon, South Korea, India’s Abhinav Shaw and Gautami Bhanot won the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team gold, defeating the French combination of Oceanne Muller and Romain Aufrere 17-13.
This was India’s third gold medal of the competition, putting them in second place in the medal tally, along with a silver and two bronze medals, according to a release from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Monday.
China leads the tally with the same amount of gold and bronze medals as India, but with an extra silver to show for it.
India also won bronze in the second medal event (ISSF) of the day, the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team, when Abhinav Choudhury and Sainyam, who had won gold in the Air Pistol women’s individual on Sunday, defeated the hosts’ Kim Juri and Kim Kanghyun 17-11.
Abhinav and Gautami had previously shot 627.4 in qualifying, finishing second out of 35 teams to qualify for the gold medal match-up. Oceanne and Romain had previously set the record with 632.4, but the Indian duo flipped the order in the final with some tough shooting. They were down 0-4 at the start but showed incredible determination to win in the end.
Abhinav Choudhary and Sainyam finished fourth after shooting a combined 574 in qualification. That gave them a chance for bronze, which they gladly accepted.
The Men’s and Women’s 10m Air Rifle finals, as well as the Men’s and Women’s Skeet finals, are scheduled for Day Three.
