Today, a low pressure area has developed in the northwest Bay of Bengal along the shores of Odisha and West Bengal.
According to meteorological expert Umashankar Dash, the system is expected to intensify and move northward over the course of the next 24 hours due to an active cyclonic circulation.
The districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore are expected to see heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today, according to the IMD. Mayurbhanj and Balasore are under a Red Warning due to the risk of waterlogging and very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
The districts of Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Kendrapara are under an Orange Warning due to severe to extremely heavy rain. Other state districts are under a Yellow Warning.
Along with the rain, coastal areas are likely to experience winds of 30 to 40 kmph.
The Meteorological Center has recommended residents in the warning districts to stay vigilant for waterlogging, traffic disruption, and potential landslides in vulnerable places, and fishermen to refrain from going into the sea.
