“Mission Drishti by GalaxEye marks a major achievement in our space journey. The successful launch of the world’s first OptoSAR satellite and the largest privately-built satellite in India is a testament to our youth’s passion for innovation and nation-building.
Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the founders and the entire team of GalaxEye.”
On Sunday, the Bengaluru-based start-up launched Drishti, its first commercial satellite, into orbit atop the Falcon 9.
The project, dubbed the “world’s first OptoSAR satellite” by the corporation, represents a significant advancement in Earth observation technology and underscores India’s growing presence in the global space business.
Mission Drishti is India’s largest privately produced Earth observation satellite, weighing approximately 190 kilograms.
It is the world’s first satellite to integrate Electro-Optical (EO) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors into a single operational platform, allowing for imaging in all weather situations, day and night.
The satellite has a “SyncFused OptoSAR” payload, which combines optical imaging and radar technology.
While optical satellites give high-resolution views, they are limited by cloud cover and darkness, whereas radar systems can pierce clouds, smoke, and rain and operate 24/7.
