In a tragic incident, at least 18 people lost their lives, and several others were injured after chaos broke out at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night. The event occurred as a large throng gathered after the announcement of a special train, causing fear within 15-20 minutes. According to accounts, the incident was caused by a large number of passengers arriving at the station to catch special trains for the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his distress over the incident on X. He stated, “Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured have a speedy recovery. The authorities are assisting all those who have been affected by this stampede.” According to Delhi Police, 18 people including 14 women lost their lives in the stampede that occurred yesterday around 10 PM at New Delhi Railway station.
