According to the most recent update shared by the Secretariat of the Election Commission of India (ECI) at 7.08 PM, an estimated 66.63 percent of votes were cast in the by-election held today for the Dhamnagar assembly constituency in Odisha.
The ECI has maintained, however, that this is an approximate trend based on data from some polling stations.
Even before voting began at 7 a.m., long lines were seen in front of polling stations. Voting was extended until 6 p.m., as planned.
Some polling stations experienced EVM glitches, which were quickly resolved.
In this by-election, a total of 2.38 lakh voters, including 1.23 lakh men and 1.15 lakh women, were eligible to vote.
Dhamnagar constituency saw a drop in polling percentage this time around, compared to previous elections, which saw around 70% voter turnout.
In the 2019 assembly election, 72.64 percent of voters cast ballots, compared to 73.46 percent in 2014.
There were 252 polling booths, 110 of which were designated as sensitive.
Suryabanshi Suraj of the BJP, Abanti Das of the BJD, Rajendra Das of the Independent Party, Baba Harekrushna Sethi of the Congress, and Anwar Sheikh of the AAP are among the five candidates.
