In a substantial boost to Odisha’s industrial boom, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the groundwork and inaugurated 36 key industrial projects totaling Rs 40,811 crore in Bhuinpur in the Begunia block of Khurda district on Wednesday.
Out of the 36 projects, 25 were formally started, while the groundwork for 11 new ones was laid. The projects cover a wide range of industries, including green energy equipment, metals and downstream industries, textiles and apparel, plastics, tourism, agricultural and food processing, defense manufacturing, information technology, automotive, and cement.
Speaking at the grand public meeting organised on the occasion, Chief Minister Majhi said, “Odisha is no longer just a state of possibilities. Our state is now experiencing the touch of prosperity.” He described the event as a new and important chapter in the golden journey towards a prosperous Odisha and termed it a reflection of the second industrial revolution underway in the state.
The Chief Minister stated that these 36 projects are likely to create more than 59,000 direct and indirect jobs. “59,000 new jobs is not a small achievement,” he added, noting that in the last 18-20 months, the government had already laid the groundwork or launched 109 projects worth almost Rs 2.5 lakh crore, creating 1.76 lakh jobs. With today’s investment of more than Rs 40,000 crore, the overall number of jobs created through these programs has increased dramatically.
Majhi underlined that many commodities that were previously imported from abroad will now be created in Odisha.
“The products made in Odisha will reach the world market, making our industrial ecosystem more self-reliant and contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he stated. The Chief Minister noted that in the current state budget, more than Rs 72,000 crore has been allocated for infrastructure development, which is approximately 6.5 percent of the state’s GDP. This massive push, he said, is accelerating infrastructure creation and generating fresh employment opportunities.
He further remarked that the last 20 months, particularly since January 2025, have witnessed a new momentum in Odisha’s industrial sector. “We have 10 years left for 2036, and these are the ‘visionary years’ for all of us. Economic growth with Odia Asmita (identity) remains our top priority,” Majhi added.
Before the public event, the Chief Minister held a special roundtable meeting with industrialists from various states of India and abroad to discuss upcoming projects. He assured them of full government support, including land, electricity, water, and communication facilities. “All necessary approvals will be provided on time. In case of any issues, industrialists can directly approach the Chief Minister’s office for immediate resolution,” he assured.
Industries Minister Sampada Chandra Swain stated that the day’s agenda represents the government’s commitment to developing a varied, stable, and future-ready industrial ecosystem. “Talking and keeping promises are two distinct things. “Our government is focused on action,” he said.
Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi commended Odisha’s strong administration and industrial readiness, while local MLAs Prashant Jagdev and Pradeep Kumar Sahu also spoke at the event.
Senior officials such as Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma, and Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ, were present. The occasion was also attended by representatives from companies whose projects were launched or foundation stones were placed. Following the discussion, Chief Minister Majhi toured the project exhibition and spoke with corporate executives and employees.
