Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Friday the standard operating procedure (SOP) for implementing the Subhadra Yojana, one of the BJP’s key electoral pledges.
Majhi declared before the Odisha Assembly that the State Cabinet approved the Subhadra Yojana, a groundbreaking project for women’s empowerment, during the fiscal years 2024-2025 to 2028-29. He stated that Rs 55,825 crore has been allocated for the effort.
The Chief Minister Majhi stated that the Subhadra Scheme will alter the lives of more than one crore women in the state, and that it will cover all eligible women aged 21 and up but under the age of 60.
Majhi elaborated on the initiative, stating that a total of Rs 10,000 each year will be paid in two installments of Rs 5000 each on Rakhi Purnima and International Women’s Day (March 8). Thus, a qualified lady beneficiary will receive Rs 50,000 over five years.
To improve transparency in giving assistance, the payment will be paid straight to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-enabled single-holder (DBT) bank account using the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS). He stated that the beneficiaries will also receive a Subhadra Debit Card.
While emphasizing his government’s commitment to ‘Antodaya’, the Chief Minister underlined that women from economically privileged households, government employees, and income tax payers will not be eligible for this plan. Besides, Women who are receiving assistance of Rs 1,500 or more per month or Rs 18,000 or more per year under any other government scheme will also be ineligible for inclusion under Subhadra, he added.
Women can apply for benefits under this system by filling out forms, which are accessible for free at Anganwadi Centres, Block Offices, Mo Seva Kendras, Jan Seva Kendras, and other locations. The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a ‘Subhadra’ Call Centre.
He stated that the Women and Child Development Department will establish a Subhadra Society to oversee the programme’s execution and monitoring.
While informing the House that his government is working to start the initiative as soon as possible, the Chief Minister requested active collaboration from members to guarantee that no deserving woman is left out.
