Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched 250 new ambulances today at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, marking the second phase of the state’s ambulance development campaign.

The state administration has ordered a total of 428 new ambulances to offer prompt medical care. On December 23, 2025, the first phase began, with 150 ambulances being deployed. The entire effort, which costs approximately Rs 111 crore in state funds, aims to improve emergency response and lower mortality rates by shortening the time it takes patients to reach hospitals.

Currently, Odisha operates 866 emergency ambulances throughout the state. Furthermore, 500 special ambulances under the ‘Janani Express’ system are dedicated to pregnant mothers and ailing children, serving as a lifeline for communities.

The Chief Minister highlighted that constant efforts are being made to improve ambulance services’ efficiency and robustness. Efforts are also being made to sustain round-the-clock services from all blocks to District Headquarters Hospitals and the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack. As part of the state’s flight strategy, ambulance services will be extended to airstrips such as Rourkela and Jeypore.

Five Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances are currently stationed at state airports, with two more at the Cancer Hospital in Jharsuguda. On average, these services carry nearly 5,000 patients to government hospitals each day.

The launch event was attended by Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Ekamra Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Health & Family Welfare Commissioner-cum-Secretary Aswathy S., and National Health Mission Director Dr. Brundha D.
