The Union government has extended the deadline for farmers in Odisha to enroll in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) for the Kharif season 2023 to August 5.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare announced in a letter to the Director of Agriculture & Food Production of Odisha that the cut-off date for enrolment of farmers under PMFBY for Kharif season 2023 has been extended from July 23 to August 5 on the request of the Odisha government.
According to the letter, all concerned insurance companies operating in Odisha – AIC of India, Future General, SBI General Insurance, and Reliance General Insurance Company – have agreed to the prolongation of the cut-off date.
Loanee and non-loanee farmers can now register before the deadline through banks/PACS/LAMPCS, CSCs, insurance company agents, and the NCIP web. The Centre will pay the premium over the extended period, according to the letter.
Previously, the Odisha government had written to the ministry, requesting an extension of the deadline since many farmers had not filed their applications due to delays in notification and installation of new technology. The government has also stated that it will pay farmers’ insurance premiums up to 2 hectares.
Meanwhile, Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary, Cooperation Department, Government of Odisha, has asked all parties involved to work together to meet the extended deadline.
“As a team, let’s deliver the very best, and enroll the maximum number of farmers to benefit them from the state government’s decision of bearing farmers’ share of premium up to 2 hectares, he said.
