Following a review on Saturday, Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak informed department staff that the Department of Higher Education will have a dedicated Pension Cell and must maintain integrity and openness in accordance with the Government’s 5T governance.

Nayak spent about two hours reviewing various departmental activities. A dedicated pension cell should be established immediately, and employees should get their pension on the day they retire. He mandated that all pending pension cases be resolved within a particular time frame.

“All out efforts be made to fill up the vacancies of teaching and non-teaching staff in the colleges. He impressed upon the officers to create a database of all the faculty of the Government aided /GIA colleges through Software so that the vacancy can be monitored and rationalized,” the Minister stated.

He also went over the status of RUSA and World Bank funds, as well as student scholarships and other programs. A lengthy debate was held on how to improve higher education standards and the development of educational institutions in the state.

The provision/allotment of monies in various categories be used effectively and on schedule. Measures to improve NAAC rankings and participation in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) were also explored.

While asking department personnel to maintain utmost integrity and transparency, Nayak has warned that any divergence will not be tolerated. He has requested that the Secretary of Higher Education personally evaluate the money waiting in various colleges and ensure that they are used as soon as possible.

The review meeting was attended by Arabinda Agrawal, Secretary of Higher Education, and several departmental officers, among others.
