In order to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Odisha government today instructed all hospital authorities in the state to maintain vigilance and take preventative action.
The State Health Department instructed all CDMOs, Medical Colleges, and Capital Hospital authorities in a letter to enhance ILI/SARI surveillance and provide testing in all health centers throughout the State.
The letter stated that for individuals who tested positive, the home isolation procedure should be closely adhered to and the required treatment support should be given.
In accordance with the management policy, the department also requested that the hospital administration guarantee oxygen-supported beds and dedicated beds for all admissions. Additionally, hospitals are instructed not to make any needless referrals.
The department declared that under no circumstances should a report regarding the lack of testing and treatment facilities at the district and sub-district levels be withheld.
The district administration has requested that the health institutions work together to increase community awareness through IEC/BCC, with a focus on COVID-19 appropriate behavior for symptomatic, aged, and vulnerable populations.
In cooperation with OSMCL, Odisha, the hospitals have requested that sufficient supplies of test kits, reagents, medications, and consumables be made available to address the COVID-19 crisis.
The government also placed a strong emphasis on the education and training of laboratory and healthcare professionals. The hospital administration is required to have a backup plan ready for any eventuality.
