The Odisha government has decided to form Anganwadi Management Committees (AMCs) for all Anganwadi Centres in the state as part of the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 initiative to improve community engagement and monitoring at the grassroots level.
In a letter dated July 13, the Department of Women and Child Development instructed all Collectors-cum-District Magistrates to establish the AMCs. The decision is in accordance with instructions provided by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
According to the notification, AMCs are intended to serve as a community-based institutional structure for ensuring ownership, responsibility, transparency, and effective monitoring of Anganwadi services.
The relevant Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) would form the committee for each Anganwadi Centre in accordance with the Centre’s composition and functions. In addition to the members listed in the central rules, the state has opted to add two more members to increase community representation. These include one adolescent girl from the local community who is pursuing Higher Secondary (+2) or College education, as well as one Subhadra Scheme beneficiary who is not a part of the Self Help Group.
According to the department’s basic composition, the AWC Supervisor will act as the AMC Chairperson.
