The cyclonic circulation that was over West Myanmar and its surroundings yesterday has moved west-northwestward and is now over the Northeast Bay of Bengal. A Low Pressure Area is expected to form over the North Bay of Bengal in the next 12 hours as a result of its influence, according to the India Meteorological Department’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The system is expected to become more noticeable over the next 24 hours and then move west-northwestwards.
As a result, the IMD has issued an Orange Warning for 14 districts today. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is expected in isolated locations across the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi, according to the warning.
It has the potential to cause landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas, temporary water logging in low-lying areas, occasional visibility loss causing traffic congestion in urban areas, and some damage to Kutcha roads and vulnerable Kutcha houses. The IMD has advised people to make arrangements to drain excess water from inundated agricultural fields.
