The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid weather expected in numerous regions of Odisha until June 7.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather forecast, districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are predicted to have oppressive weather conditions, particularly on June 3, 4, and 5. The alert may remain in effect for isolated areas in these districts until June 6 and 7.
Dr. Manorama Mohanty, Scientist-F and Head of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, stated today that daytime temperatures are expected to steadily rise over the next five days, resulting to increased heat stress, particularly in coastal areas.
“In view of the expected temperature and humidity levels, a yellow warning has been issued for hot and humid weather across parts of Odisha until June 7,” Dr. Mohanty said.
She advised residents—particularly those in coastal districts—to take necessary precautions to combat heat-related discomfort.
The public is urged to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and use cooling measures as necessary.
While scattered light to moderate rainfall may occur in a few areas, no considerable rainfall is forecast throughout this time.
“The southwest monsoon has already made its advance into parts of southern Odisha, with its northern limit currently extending through Bhawanipatna and Puri,” She said.
The meteorological service continues to constantly monitor conditions and has encouraged people to stay vigilant and follow local authorities’ recommendations.
