P.V. Sindhu lifted the Singapore Open Super 500 trophy on July 17 after defeating China’s Wang Zhi Yi in an intense women’s singles final.
In a hard-fought title match, Sindhu came out on top 21-9 11-21 21-15 against Wang, the reigning Asian Championships gold medalist, who managed to stay strong in key moments.
The title run will be a significant boost for Sindhu, who will lead India’s charge at the Commonwealth Games, which begin on July 28 in Birmingham.
This was her third title of the season, following two Super 300 victories in the Syed Modi International and Swiss Open, and it added to her World Championships collection, which includes a gold, two silver, and two bronze medals besides two Olympic medals.
