In a great comfort to farmers, the state government has extended the registration deadline for paddy procurement by another seven days.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced the decision on Saturday.
The Minister stated that the paddy registration procedure, which began on August 6 this year, was set to end on August 31. So far, almost 17 lakh farmers have registered for paddy sales. Last year, 19.67 lakh farmers registered, with a similar number predicted this year.
He stated that farmers encountered network troubles at several points during the registration procedure, which caused inconvenience. Discussions have been held with the technical team to resolve the problem and the government has assured that the network and technical glitches will be fixed soon.
